As you may or may not have noticed, I’m kind of a self-development geek. When it comes to self-development I’m really an experimenter, as I always try to push myself to become a better person, inside and out.

The last decade I have tried living with less sleep, barefoot running, grinning every day until my jaw hurts – just to keep a positive attitude, tying my shoes differently AND tried and doing The 4-hour Body’s Slow Carb ™ diet.

Now not every endaviour succeeded, but it has shown me how to motivate myself. Every day I succeed in building up my new habit I feel like a winner!

Do you want to be a winner?

The real killer is keeping yourself motivated, maintaining focus over days and weeks is the hardest part. When you are up to a challenge and certain you will succeed, here are some simple tips to keep you focused.

  • Tell as many people as you can about your new plans, so they can support you doing it, or mock you of you fail, which will motivate you even more to succeed.
  • Look for like-minded people, be it online or close friends, if you have someone to share your plans and challenges with, you will motivate eachother.
  • Apply the ‘Don’t break the chain’ effect. If you don’t know this, it consists of consecutively crossing out days on a calendar to mark your new habit being developed. If you do so for every day, you have a chain of days and at 30 days, a new habit.

Want to start a new habit? Try for a couple of days to see if you like it. Then share it with your world, it will help you tremendously!
